Initial situation:

The building of the vocational college from the 1950s is predominantly painted white (see title). As a result of the above-average success of the quality analysis conducted in 2012, the school community would like to see a refreshment, a special accentuation of the architecture that creates more identity and sets artistic accents. This school works intensively on and with teaching and extra-curricular concepts to integrate artistic impulses into school life and to train dialogue and diversity skills. The school management, together with Mr Bialas, a teacher of German and religion, who initiates and is responsible for the school's internal programme "Dialog!Arts and Cultures", approached Prof. Jan Kolata and the Institute via Prof. Ulrich Erben (Düsseldorf) in autumn 2012.

Project:

As part of the advanced seminar in the summer semester of 2013, the students develop an artistic concept under the supervision of Prof. Kolata and with art historical support from Dr. Gliesmann. They deal intensively with the topic of "art in architecture" and develop an overall concept with the help of a scale model of the building and various other visualisation options (PC, studio walls of the TU). They communicate this to the school community and implement it in the building themselves. In the process, the large areas at the front of the staircase will probably be used preferentially and the corridors will be accentuated with attention areas.
