Together with the Wüstenrot Foundation, the Seminar for Art and Art Science at the TU Dortmund University has been conducting a project on the implementation of building culture education in schools and teacher training since July 2011.

The curricular building blocks for teaching "Baukultur - Gebaute Umwelt", which the Wüstenrot Foundation published in 2010, serve as a basis. They were tested in the 2011/12 school year at four Hagen schools in different subjects and across subjects. The processes were documented and presented to the public in an exhibition at the Osthaus Museum in summer 2012 (3 June-30 September 2012) (a publication appeared in June 2013).

The second project phase will begin in the winter semester 2012/13. It will have a nucleus in the "Dortmunder U"; the project is to be presented to the public in an exhibition in the summer of 2013 on the "Dortmunder U" university campus (a publication is also planned for this project phase). In this project phase, schools of different types from Dortmund and the surrounding area, and also from Hagen will continue to participate.

A series of courses in the context of this project will take place at the Seminar for Art and Art Science in the winter semester 2012/13:

The project is academically accompanied by the seminar Stadtspäher. It is conducted by Prof. Dr Klaus-Peter Busse and Prof. Dr Barbara Welzel in the fields of art didactics and art history. In this seminar, on the one hand, the subject-specific basics are clarified, on the other hand, the teaching of art history and building culture education is discussed and - based on the curricular building blocks - concepts are developed. Furthermore, links with other subjects will be developed.
