In the course of history, the image of the child and thus the expectations with regard to its later role in society have changed greatly. They have been reflected again and again in the nursery rhyme. Lines like 'Maikäfer flieg, der Vater ist im Krieg' or 'Stille, stille mäuschenstill - stille, weil's der Lehrer will' stand for an authoritarian 'black' pedagogy based on fear and subordination, while since the end of the 1960s at the latest, cheeky, emancipatory songs emphasising children's abilities and rights have emerged and gradually found their way into pre-school and school education.

But even between these poles there is much that is significant in the tradition of children's song, such as the work of August Hoffmann von Fallersleben, who probably had the most lasting impact in this sector with songs like 'Summ, summ, summ', 'Im Märzen der Bauer' and many others.

In addition to this historical approach, a strong focus of the seminar will also be the examination of current children's song production, which can be better understood and classified against the background of these lines of development.

In the context of the project "Diversity Dialogues in Studies and Teaching", the impressions of historical and current children's songs reflected in the seminar will be discussed with students of educational science and seen in comparison to other positions in cultural education.
