TU Dortmund University has developed a concept for gender-neutral toilet facilities so that people who do not identify with a binary gender or who are in the process of gender transition can use toilets without discrimination.

First of all, the gender designations are removed from all single toilets (enclosed single cubicles, no multiple facilities) and a symbol for "sitting toilet" or "standing toilet" is added.

In new construction projects, both single toilets are planned and multiple toilet facilities are built in such a way that the cubicles are accessible without having to pass through the standing toilets. In this way, the as yet unadapted Workplace Ordinance can be complied with and future reclassification made possible.
