This workshop deals with the connection between language and racist patterns of interpretation and offers the opportunity to critically reflect on and improve one's own work through increased sensitivity to racism.

Dear TU Dortmund University employees,

language in its various forms is an important means of communication that is permeated by power structures. Whether consciously or unconsciously, our everyday use of language is permeated by colonial and National Socialist language patterns.

This workshop will focus on the power of language and why the effect is more important than a lack of intention.

Together we will address the following questions

  • What influence do colonialism and racism have on our language?
  • What does this do to our own perception?
  • Who is talking about whom and why?
  • And what does this actually have to do with me?

Do you have an example or similar in mind that you would like to contribute to the topic? Please send it to us in advance via schuds@tu-dortmund.de.
