Family-friendly TU Dortmund
By signing the “Family in Higher Education” charter, TU Dortmund University has been working since 2014 within a network of universities to further develop family friendliness specifically in the higher education sector. Since 2020, more than 120 universities and research institutions from across Germany, Austria and Switzerland have been members of the Familie in der Hochschule e.V. (Family in the University e.V.) network.
The aim of this university network is to establish a quality label for family orientation at German‑speaking universities and to secure the long‑term sustainability of the network, which has existed since 2008. Member universities share their experiences and learn from one another. An up‑to‑date insight into the work of Familie in der Hochschule e.V. is provided by the documentation of the 6th annual conference of FidH e.V.,
held on October 1, 2019 at htw saar. During the coronavirus pandemic, the network also published a statement on April 17, 2020 with recommendations for all groups within universities.
The association Familie in der Hochschule e.V. and the CHE Center for Higher Education Development jointly advocate for family equity to be firmly and permanently anchored at the highest management level of universities. A recent publication by CHE publication from February 24, 2021 outlines which measures for reconciling family and work or study have proven effective during the current crisis: Der Weg zur familienorientierten Hochschule - Lessons Learnt aus der Corona-Pandemie ("The Road to Family-Centered Higher Education - Lessons Learned from the Corona Pandemic).
